Dr. Benjamin H. Smith, PharmD, BCACP, BCGP, CPP is the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer for Population Health and Ambulatory Services at Duke University Health System (DUHS). He leads system ambulatory pharmacy strategy with services in primary care, select specialty clinics, and population health. Dr. Smith practices as a clinical pharmacist practitioner (CPP) in an internal medicine clinic. He graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, NC and completed an ambulatory care specialty pharmacy residency at Mission Hospital and the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in Asheville, NC. Dr. Smith’s primary practice interests are facilitating the growth and clinical advancement of both population health and ambulatory pharmacy services, including the role of pharmacy technicians. His research interests are focused on evaluating the impact of these services. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Smith was a prior co-recipient for the Wiederholt Prize for the best published paper in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association (JAPhA) for economic, social, and administrative sciences. He is a member of the ASHP Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners (SACP) Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Compensation and Practice Sustainability and serves as a member of the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists Ambulatory Care Academy Executive Committee.
