William Darko earned his bachelor of pharmacy degree, B.Pharm (Hons) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana , West Africa. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He completed his pharmacy practice residency training at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, New York and a critical care specialty residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center/Arnold Marie Swartz College of Pharmacy, Brooklyn, New York.
William Darko has been the PGY – 1 Pharmacy residency program director at Upstate University Hospital for 18 years. He is also a senior pharmacist, board – certified critical care pharmacy specialist, an Assistant Professor of Medicine, and an adjunct Assistant Professor of pharmacy practice. He is the director and pioneer of the PGY1 Pharmacy residency clinical research microcredential and received the 2023 academic affairs award for innovations and creativity in microcredentials at Upstate University Hospital.
Dr. William Darko is very active in clinical pharmacy practice, research, and pharmacy education and training. He is a preceptor for both pharmacy residents and students and is involved in training of medical residents and fellows in his specialty. He is an author and co-author of about 48 peer – reviewed publications and one book chapter. He has presented at several regional professional meetings. His research interest is in identifying opportunities to improve PGY – 1 residency training.
