Ivan P. Cephas, Pharm. D., is the Chief, Pharmacy Service at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DCVA). After graduating from Florida A&M University’s College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Cephas completed his postgraduate training (PGY1) at the DCVA. He soon, spearheaded a novel position as Emergency Preparedness Pharmacist while also directing the PGY1 program at the DC VAMC. Also, he was the founding Executive Director and Chief Administrator for CMS Health Initiatives, a pharmacist run health education non-profit organization focused in health literacy and HIV. Throughout his VA career he has served in various roles within the Washington, DC VA and he was also able complete a detail for the National VA Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) Group as the Acting Deputy Chief Consultant, PBM, Clinical Informatics and Acting Associate Chief, Consultant, PBM, Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP). Additionally, Dr. Cephas is currently serving on the National Residency Advisory Board, Academic Detailing Executive Committee and the Executive Leadership Board (PBM). From 2017-2019, Dr. Cephas completed his term as President for the Washington Metropolitan Society for Health System Pharmacists and received the Bowl of Hygeia (2018) from the DC Pharmaceutical Association. More recently, he has been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for Association for Black Health System Pharmacist (ABHP). Dr. Cephas has always intended to give back to his community.
